OSRS Gentle Quest Hints

This guide provides gentle hints for anyone trying to do the quests with as few guides as possible, but still want to avoid time-wasters that might not be valuable to solve blind.

This page is INCOMPLETE. It’s an ongoing project that I will add to as I play the game and complete the quests guideless. If a quest is absent from this page, either I haven’t done it yet, or I decided that there is a reasonable path to figuring out how to finish the quest.

WARNING: The hints I provide below may still count as spoilers depending on who you ask. I decide on what hints to write about based purely on my personal opinion.

Gertrude’s Cat

The meows that come from the crates is/are not the cat you’re searching for.

Hazeel Cult

A decision you make has an extremely minor but permanent consequence that you can’t undo. If you care about this sort of thing and don’t mind spoiling yourself, visit this OSRS wiki page.

The valves puzzle is really annoying. I don’t think there is a reasonable clue for it, so I had to find the solution via. brute force. Basically, the solution is:

  • The valve just north of the cave entrance should be turned LEFT.
  • All other valves should be turned RIGHT.

Merlin’s Crystal

This quest requires you to search for a bunch of different things. Don’t assume that everything has to be “near” Camelot.

Murder Mystery

Gossip gives useful hints, so there is never a point where you should actually be hard-stuck in this quest. However, the hints are randomized. It took me maybe 10 minutes of sitting at Gossip and asking for hints before he would tell me about a particular important thing to do. If you’re hard-stuck, you might just be unlucky with the hints you’re given.

(The only reason I knew about it was because I did this with a friend and they showed me a screenshot of the dialogue. I still tried to get Gossip to give me the same dialogue because I just wanted to see it in-game for myself.)

Tree Gnome Village

Just remember that NPCs won’t appear on your screen until you’re close enough to the NPC. This is true for all NPCs in OSRS, not just for this quest.
